Beginning September 17th 2002, Christian & Son Inc. Began the project of disassembly and removal of "Building 11", the Thomas Edison Chemistry Lab from Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan. The project was undertaken in cooperation with two other historical restoration companies; Apple Restoration of New York City, and Restoration Management Services of New York City. The goal of the project is a complete museum quality relocation of the building, including detailed "relational documentation" of existing condition and framing structure. The project was completed in West Orange New Jersey, with the building being reconstructed on it's original site.
Work is now complete on the rebuilding of the structure in New Jersey. Repairs have been made to damaged materials, allowing them to be reused whenever possible, keeping replacement materials to a minimum. Through this detailed process, the maximum possible amount of original historic fabric can be preserved, without compromising the strength of the structure. Each individual part has been replaced in it's exact previous location.
