The Price home is an elegant example of marrying a historic stone structure to modern timber framing. This old stone house has a beautiful future once again.
Mr. Price came to us with a dream. Having purchased property with a majestic stone home that was once a roadside inn, he knew his goal was to bring it back to life. Through a long and detailed design process, we were able to assist Mr. Price in planning, reshaping, and repurposing the structure into a beautiful home.
At an unknown point in the past, the original Timber Frame roof system on the stone house had burned. The majority of the parts had been replaced with salvaged materials, and the roof was now in extremely poor condition. After surveying the stone structure, we were able to determine that the walls were quite intact and strong, so a new, open, Timber Frame roof system was designed to perch atop the walls.
Design Considerations
With large, open spaces, and two functional stone fireplaces already in the house, the challenge was to create living space that melded modern aesthetic with the existing stone. An architect had already produced conceptual drawings for the new home complete with two addition wings, which we modified to accept the White Oak Timber Frames. With the design phase complete, materials were ordered and construction could begin.
Completed Timber Framing
The completed timber frame is a breathtaking cathedral structure in the great room area, a warm King Post trussed wing in the master bedroom, and a historically accurate King Post truss system for the new roof of the stone house.
