A shining example of adaptive re-use and material recycling combined, this beautiful lodge style home has a warm feel unmatched by modern construction.
Built in late 2007, this home is especially elaborate and warm. All materials used were salvaged from existing historic buildings in the Tennessee and Indiana area, and the timber frame roof system perches atop log cabin walls. As a result, the finished space has an extremely "lodge like" feel.
This project is a fine example of our design and built-to-suit capabilities, since the log walls were constructed by another contractor before we ever met the client. Unable to complete the project due to its complexity, the original contractor left the job and Mr. Eagle sought us out to finish his dream home.
Special Considerations
Because the home was designed by an architect with no Timber Frame experience, little consideration had been given to structural issues. The plans depicted vague concepts and timbers inserted merely for effect. The original contractor constructed the log walls, and then was unable to resolve the loads of a 2nd floor and roof structure. The architect was also at a loss. With the team lacking the expertise to construct a home from recycled materials that would pass engineering standards, the project ground to a halt.
Project Completion
After designing a properly engineered Timber Frame 2nd floor and roof system, we adjusted the plans to match the materials Mr. Eagle already had, as much as possible. The Timber Frame was finished two months later, and the results are not only amazing, but will last for generations to come.
